Abdal Hakim Murad - A New Translation, New Videos and More

A new translation by Shaykh Abdal-Hakim Murad (né Timothy J. Winter), entitled Ten Good Manners for Hajj, was recently posted at Mas'ud Khan's website. As far as I know, this short treatise is the most recent of the shaykh's translations [1, 2] of the works of Imam al-Ghazali—may God have mercy on both of them, although it seems there's a translation, called The Marvels of the Heart: Al-Ghazali's Science of the Spirit, currently scheduled to be released in 2007 by Fons Vitae.

Also, since my wife and I have been doing some exploring on YouTube.com lately, I happened to come across some use video clips of Shaykh Abdal-Hakim Murad. Most of these were posted as promotionals (a.k.a. teasers) by the MeccaCentric Da'wah Group, and my favorites were Puritan Muslims (a must watch!), The Muslim Influence on Europe and the West, Shahadah: The Symbol of Islam, The Crescent: A Legitimate Symbol of Islam? and Muslim-Christian Views of One Another. All of these brief clips are well worth watching, so I encourage everyone to do so.

I'll also mention that I learned (from a posting by Mas'ud Khan on DeenPort.com) that there's a hot Firefox add-on called Fast Video Download that allows you to easily download the videos posted on YouTube.com, Google Video, iFilm and other such sites. This way you can play them directly from your hard drive, where they won't be affected by a slow network connection or other Internet performance issues.

If you need a player for the videos in FLV format, which is the format they'll be in coming off of YouTube.com, I'm using the Free Riva FLV Player 1.2 and have been very happy with it so far.

A brief biography of Abdal Hakim Murad, as well as a lot more articles by him, can be found here.

Enjoy and Deen On...
